‘This Is Us’ episode 9 preview: Prepare for ramifications of Kate – Randall reveal

This past episode of “This Is Us” on NBC certainly was one that packed a rather significant emotional punch, mostly because of how Randall finally learned some of the information Kate’s been holding for the past several decades in terms of her history with William. She was well aware of him and had some semblance of a relationship there, but chose not to disclose it.

As you would expect given the magnitude of this sort of reveal, there are going to be some pretty enormous consequences that come along with it. How much so? Let’s turn this over to creator Dan Fogelman, who had the following to say on the subject in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly,

“We spend a little time examining what it is both flawed and beautiful that has been the next step in Rebecca keeping the secret for all those years, so that you kind of understand her, even if you don’t agree with what she’s done … I think we can all understand and agree with what she did when Randall was a baby and things were happening quickly, but the question becomes, ‘How did she keep it all this time?’ And that’s something that we dive into very heavily.”

There are often reasons behind every action on this show, and they tend to be well thought-out. We don’t think this is as simple as Rebecca wanting to keep Randall at arm’s length from the truth, just for the sake of her own benefit. That is something that we will hopefully get a little bit of further insight on as we move further and further along into the series.

Overall, every indication that we have suggests that we’re going to see the aftermath of the reveal from multiple sides, and that Randall will spend some time processing. Hopefully, along the way he’s going to have the support of the people who are close to him.
