‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Steven Moffat unlikely to write future episodes after exit

Doctor Who -If you’ve been following many headlines over the past year, then odds are, you already know the news that following the 2017 Christmas Special, Steven Moffat is likely to step down as the showrunner of “Doctor Who.” He’ll be leaving having served on the series for many years, and having created some remarkable episodes of the series.

When you leave a job like this, it’s understandable that you could spend a little bit of time struggling to let go. However, it doesn’t seem that this is something that Moffat himself will have many problems with.

Speaking (per the Radio Times) at the Oxford Union, the showrunner had the following to say about having a fairly firm departure from the series once his tenure is done:

“…This is probably it for me – once I’m done, I’m done … I’ve written a hell of a lot of Doctor Who. I’ve written more Doctor Who than anything else, and I’ve written more Doctor Who than anyone else has ever written. It feels as though, in my limited time on this Earth, I really should start focusing on something else. It’s not that I’ve lost love for the show at all, but I think it’s time for Doctor Who to have something new, as well as me.”

Chris Chibnall will be taking over the series for the upcoming 11th season, and it is potentially a little too early to speculate as to precisely what sort of series he will have to work with when the show does come back on the air. It’s possible that he could have both Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie on board, but it is a little too early to know for certain.

The next episode of the series will air around the globe on Christmas Day; meanwhile, the tenth season will premiere at some point in 2017.
