‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8, episode 6 preview: Paul Wesley directs key Stefan episode

Salvatore -

Outside of some crazy mythology and storytelling that runs the gamut from romantic to violently dramatic, one of the hallmarks of the past few seasons of “The Vampire Diaries” has been watching some of the cast get an opportunity to direct multiple episodes of the show. Paul Wesley’s done this on several occasions, and the latest one is going to be coming in two weeks’ time. (As a reminder, the show’s not airing the day after Thanksgiving — it’s Black Friday, and the vast majority of people out there are going to be asleep by the time primetime rolls around.)

This episode carries with it the title of “Detoured On Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell,” which certainly takes the cake for being one of the longest and potentially most-ridiculous names that we’ve seen the show take on to date.

Synopsis – “When her children become the focus of the Siren’s latest plan, Caroline (Candice King) takes drastic measures to ensure nothing gets in the way of keeping her family safe. In a race against the clock, Stefan (Paul Wesley) pledges to do everything he can to save the twins, while tensions between Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline boil over, leading them to face some harsh realities about the future of their family. Meanwhile, when Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finds himself unable to fight off Sybil’s (guest star Nathalie Kelley) latest move, Stefan dives into his subconscious and along the way, sets off a chain of events that leaves him faced with a life-changing decision.”

There’s clearly going to be a lot of interesting content in this episode, especially when it comes to the awkward family dynamics that could stem from what is going on with Caroline and Alaric. To us, though, one of the most-interesting parts of this story overall could very well be seeing Stefan have such a key role. Typically when actors direct an episode, their own personal story is a little lighter because of the added responsibility. That doesn’t seem to be the case here.
