NBC’s ‘The Voice’ results preview: Could Darby Walker, Aaron Gibson, or Sa’Rayah be eliminated?

The Voice -

Tonight, “The Voice” is airing its first live show of the season, and with that, we’re starting to acknowledge that we will be losing, one way or another, at least a few people we like over the course of the night.

Based on song choice, past voting trends, and iTunes sales to date, here are some of the people we feel are in the most danger.

Darby Walker – It’s still surprising given how we thought she was a favorite going into the live shows, but her “Ruby Tuesday” was only barely in the top 100 on iTunes and she performed early in the show. We’re a big fan of her talent, but her main issue to us is that she’s extremely indie on a show that favors more of the commercial. Her voice is polarizing, and it’s hard to find the right lane here.

Aaron Gibson – While we enjoyed all of the performances from Team Miley last night, she’s clearly struggling when it comes to appealing to the average voter. “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” is a song that a good 98% of viewers are not familiar with, and melodically, it’s not as easy to love on the first listen. It grows on you more over time. He’s not even in the top 100 on iTunes.

Sa’Rayah – She’s also out of the top 100, and that’s with singing “Livin’ on a Prayer,” arguably one of the biggest rock songs of all time. That’s not a welcome sign for her future on the show, especially since America didn’t vote her in to the top 12, either.

Courtney Harrell – Yep, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” continues to be the kiss of death for most singing-show contestants. Why do people keep doing this to themselves?

Two people to be on the watch for are Christian Cuevas (who was at #66 on iTunes with “The Scientist”) and Austin Allsup (who was at #80). Austin’s probably safe because of country voters, but we do think that this could make him be less inventive moving forward given that straight country covers is what show viewers seem to be most interested in at present.
