‘Gotham’ season 3, episode 9 video: Benedict Samuel on Barnes’ transformation
Monday night’s new episode of “Gotham” is a mere matter of a day away, and this one certainly seems like it’s going to be crazy. Typically, the Gotham City Police Department is forced to deal with a wide array of external threats, and they do their best to prepare for them. However, it’s a little bit different when the major threat is coming from within. Nathaniel Barnes is becoming the Executioner, and we don’t get the sense that this transformation is going to be slowing down. The genie’s already out of the bottle.
You get a little bit of a sense of this madness in the sneak peek below. Barnes has always been a man to a certain point about law and order, but before this, he simply wanted it done by the letter of the law. As the Executioner, it feels more like he is the law, and therefore he’ll be handing down sentences of his own. Sure, he doesn’t seem motivated yet to take out anyone who he deems is not worthy, but is he really going to be a Dexter Morgan-like figure? Even still, it’s not like Dexter was doing something that was particularly lawful in his own way. He was a serial killer!
Below, Benedict Samuel (Jervis Tetch a.k.a. the Mad Hatter) does his part to explain precisely what is happening to Barnes, and summarizes exactly what the situation now is:
“Barnes gets infect with Alice’s blood. Everyone who comes in contact with that blood eventually turns mad and psychopathic to the point of their own destruction.”
Unless someone conjures up a magic cure, we’re not sure that there is a way we’re going to see things get any better for Barnes. He could very well be on his last legs.
