‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ season 9, episode 3 review: Kandi Burruss shares family heartache

Real Housewives of AtlantaOn the last episode of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” we saw the ladies getting along fairly well. There has been very little drama this season so far outside of Kenya and Sheree fighting over who’s house is going to get built first, but no one else cares about that except them.

This episode starts off two weeks after Matt and Kenya got back together and things are still going strong… so strong in fact that he wants her to come to his family reunion and meet his entire family! Kenya is the first woman that he has introduced to his family and boy do they have some hard questions for Kenya including “what’s your intentions with Matt” and “are you a cougar”? Kenya thought she was going to have to win his mother over more then anyone else, but it turns out Matt’s sister is the most skeptical. She peppered Kenya with questions at dinner and then took her aside to voice her concerns again at the reunion. After explaining herself and asking for a chance, Matt’s sister says that the door is open for Kenya. Matt’s mother on the other hand already has an open heart and open arms for Kenya and after seeing what she’s gone through with her own mother, it was wonderful to watch. We really want this to work out for Kenya and Matt.

Kandi doesn’t have much of a relationship with Riley’s father, so when his girlfriend (Kris Kelli) shows up at the Kandi Factory alarm bells are going off. The talk starts off with a lot of animosity since Riley’s father has been fairly absent when it comes to his daughter and Kris says that it might be because of Kandi’s vibe towards him. This breaks Kandi down since she feels that it’s not Kris’ place to be involved, and also that she doesn’t know the situation between Kandi and her ex. Kandi tries to explain to her that Riley has reached out to her dad numerous times over the years and hasn’t received much of a response, so she has put up a wall and is moving forward the best she can. The thing that was the most painful to watch was Kris go back to Riley’s dad and friends and say that Kandi is shutting him out of Riley’s life… which is not what we’ve seen at all.

Our real question about Riley’s dad is this: If Riley’s dad wanted to establish a relationship with her, wouldn’t he be the person coming down to talk to Kandi or Riley for that matter? As it turns out we are not the only ones questioning Kris asking for a relationship between Riley and her father – After Kandi tells Riley about what she and Kris talked about, Riley is also asking why it’s Kris asking and not her dad? After hearing what Kandi had to say, Riley decides to keep things as they are, which is no relationship with her dad.

We also caught up with Sheree and Bob. They may not be together, but Bob is making some changes to his physical health and mental heath in hopes that he and Sheree can move back in together (more specifically if he can move in with her). She tells him that it’s all too fast and that she will see if the changes stay in place.

Porsha has been baby crazy for the past 2 years and since she’s started talking to her ex (Todd) she’s even more baby crazy. Now don’t take that to mean that she wants a relationship with this man, as she’s mostly is hoping that he will give her a baby without having to be together. She decides to bring up this idea of them having a baby together but not being together and he says no. He also tells her that he doesn’t want to see her having some random person’s baby, and that he thinks she deserves to have it all and that it’s worth waiting for.

We have to say that so far we are really enjoying this season! There has been very little fighting among the ladies (we we are happy for), and instead we are getting a deeper look into some of their more private moments. We love this cast and any tie we have a chance to learn more about them (even the painful stuff) we are thankful for. It’s not easy to be this open with your life in general, let alone on national television for all to see, so we are thankful that we get to be part of it. Episode grade: A-
