‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 24: Derek Hough pondering return

While “Dancing with the Stars” season 23 is still going on, the competition part of things is effectively over for Derek Hough. He and his partner Marilu Henner were eliminated at the end of this past episode, and he is now in a position where he needs to think about precisely what he wants to do next … and if his future could include him coming back on the show.

After saying in the past that he would not return for upcoming seasons, at the moment he is taking a little more of a wait-and-see approach. In his blog over on TV Guide, he explains much of the reasoning for that:

“I don’t know if I’ll be back next season. It’s too early to say. I have a few projects on my plate, but you never know what’s going to happen. I didn’t think I was going to come back to the show a couple times now and ended up coming back. That show will always be my family.”

Our philosophy is that Derek will probably be back eventually, just like Mark Ballas (who is currently on “Jersey Boys”) will probably return at some point. The structure of this show makes it so that you have opportunities to go and do other things only to come back alter. Look at Cheryl Burke, someone who was gone for many seasons before returning this fall. Even if Derek leaves for two years, there could be an opening in his schedule down the road.

In his case, we have to imagine that it also probably helps knowing that his sister is a part of the show, and therefore there is a certain degree of a home base here and he never will want to steer too far away from that forever.
