‘Arrow’ season 5 theory: Who is Prometheus? The latest candidates
Tonight, “Arrow” dropped on us one of the biggest reveals of the entire season, and that was us getting to finally learn the identity of Prometheus … or did we? While it may be easy to make assumptions, the supposed man under the hood seemed somewhat surprised to wake up and see the cut on his arm and the throwing star next to him.
We’re not ruling out Quentin Lance as a candidate, but for the sake of this article, let’s take a look at the entire field of the people who — within reason — could be responsible for much of the chaos of the season.
Quentin – Obviously, we gotta start here. It’s possible that he blames Oliver for the death of Laurel and wants greater vengeance than we’ve seen, but that feels somewhat like a reach with the data we’ve seen. The more likely scenario, at least for now, is that if he is Prometheus, it’s a change from Flashpoint in some way. We don’t buy that he gets drunk and goes out and kills people; the only reasonable explanation beyond mental illness is that he is using the alcohol as a front.
Adrian Chase – He hardly had a big role tonight, but could the District Attorney be after the Green Arrow? It feels doubtful, given that he’s also Vigilante and we don’t see the point in him being two different people.
Malcolm Merlyn – He’s already a villain. Why pretend to be another unless this is, once again Flashpoint? Still seems unlikely given that he has “Legends of Tomorrow.”
Tommy Merlyn – We love the idea in theory that he either somehow survived or Flashpoint changed him; yet, Colin Donnell’s a series regular over on “Chicago Med.” We don’t know how he gets the time to be able to come back and do more of an episode or two of this show. We feel like you need to know the identity of Prometheus longer than that for him to really be a great villain.
Billy Malone – Where’s the motivation? Plus, it’s corny as heck to have the killer be Felicity’s new boyfriend targeting his old one.
Konstantin Kovar – Hey, if you’re losing Dolph Lundgren, why not go back? Logistically it could work, but is Prometheus big enough to fit the profile?
Ra’s al Ghul – Given that he wasn’t that popular of a villain the first time, we’re not sure what the motivation is to bring him back.
Susan Williams – Could it actually be a woman in disguise? She’s clearly very good at digging up dirt on a person’s past.
There are a ton of other possibilities out there, especially if you include Flashpoint as a device given that you then have people like Robert Queen you can bring back from the dead. We just don’t to see the central villain of this show be dependent on a twist that happened on another show, even if it meant getting someone like Tommy back. The issue is that there are problems with almost anyone being Prometheus, so the writers will have to get creative.
