‘Poldark’ season 3: Are Ross and Elizabeth really done?
Tonight, the season 2 finale of “Poldark” proved to be everything that you would hope for it to be, given that you had forward movement on almost every story and a complete melting-pot of different emotions that played out over the course of the hour-long run time.
Now, let us take a moment to look more towards what could come next. Note: We do not read the books and are unfamiliar with the TV series. We’re writing this from the vantage point of our television gut, so hopefully you will join us on this ride!
In the closing minutes of tonight’s finale, we were reminded that Elizabeth was pregnant, and that based on the timeline, it is very well possible that we could be looking at a situation in which the baby belongs to Ross rather than George Warleggan.
Will Ross care about such news, if it turned out to be his? Knowing this character, it is easy to presume that he would. He values family very much, and the idea of there being a child of his out there that he is not raising may be a lot for him to bear. Granted, this season he also has not always thought with Jeremy’s own best interests at heart. More often, he is a man who tends to think more about what he wants and perceives is good in the moment. What may complicate such a reveal further is the notion that it may be hard to know whether or not the baby is his. What if a child of Elizabeth and George is merely born prematurely? This could be something that nags him in the back of his brain, and as a result of that cause a sea of further complications for Ross’ own marriage.
We are finally starting to see Ross and Demelza get back on good footing once more, and we do believe that his feelings at this point for Elizabeth, if he acts on them, could lead to a split that is impossible to repair.
