‘The Crown’ season 2: Will Netflix continue Queen Elizabeth series?
This weekend, Netflix is dropping one of its most-ambitious projects in “The Crown,” which hopefully will be by all accounts a rather fantastic version of the Queen Elizabeth II story. It’s ironic that its release comes roughly at the same time as ITV’s “Victoria,” meaning that there are two spectacular series out there tracing different eras of the British monarchy.
Also, both of these series were at one point or another facing some rather specific questions in regards to their future. Our initial perception of “Victoria” was that it was going to be more or less a one-and-done product, though we’re thrilled to learn otherwise and that there is more story coming in that regard. This is a show that performed well in the ratings, and to go along with that, also has a rather tremendous star in Jenna Coleman who will help it garner even more attention in the weeks to come.
As for “The Crown,” there are reports out there already (via The Knowledge) about pre-production for more new episodes, and every indication that we get suggests that there will be more. We’re not sure that there is anything 100% definitive just yet on the Netflix front, but the plan for this show upon conception was for it to run for many years. This could be an indication where Netflix waits and sees precisely what reception and popularity is before moving 100% forward, mostly due to the high cost of making this series happen. They spared no expense in any phase of production here, making this series into something almost cinematic with elaborate period costumes. It’s authentic, but you also pay for said authenticity and have to be prepared for that.
For the time being, we’d advise you to simply enjoy the opportunity to dive into the episodes this weekend. If you and many people you know end up all collectively enjoying the series, odds are that there is going to be less for you to worry about down the line.
This is a good week for Netflix renewals — if you missed it, earlier in the week the streaming service officially decided to bring back “Longmire” for a sixth and final season. (Photo: Netflix.)

Yeah I think a lot of people in the States who aren’t already Doctor Who fans are likely to fall in love with Jenna Coleman in a couple of months.
