‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13: Be prepared for more Jo, DeLuca drama

Jo -

Someone over at “Grey’s Anatomy” clearly has a thing for irony these days. How else do you describe the storyline that’s being crafted right now when it comes to the characters of Jo and Andrew DeLuca? At the end of last season, he was merely trying to help her when Alex walked in, misinterpreted what he saw, and proceeded to get incredibly violent and belligerent. That’s been at the crux of season 13 to date, as he struggles to pay the piper for what he did.

In turn, Andrew and Jo actually have grown rather close as a result of the situation, and it’s certainly possible that an actual romance could develop through the aftermath. It’s a strange situation, but not altogether surprising given that both were broken in some way as a result of what happened. Through each other, they may actually feel a sort of solace and healing. Whether or not those feelings are romantic on both sides remains to be seen, but it certainly seems as though DeLuca feels that way. This sentiment is amplified further by what Giacomo Gianniotti (who plays the character) said per Entertainment Weekly at their PopFest over the weekend:

“They’ve gotten really close through this trial … He’s found a real friend in her, and through that, maybe something more than that has developed.”

While we certainly do want to continue to root for Jo with Alex, he’s gotta right the ship a little bit. The state of things with Jo and Andrew for now does make some sense, and it definitely makes for delicious drama. Cultivating these sort of situations in an organic-but-painful way is really what “Grey’s Anatomy” does best. It’s only going to get worse as we inch towards the winter finale later this month.
