‘The Bachelor’ promo: Nick Viall stars in scary short TV spot
ABC has unveiled the first promo (via E! News) for the upcoming season of “The Bachelor,” and it seems to be using a few simple things in order to get its message across: Nick Viall, a dapper suit, and Halloween.
Really, this preview is somewhat odd. We know you want to promote the show, while at the same time you want to incorporate the holiday in some way. The issue here is that the way this is done makes it seem as though people out there are potentially terrified of Nick, and we’re not sure that this is the sort of message you want to send out there to people.
Nick’s season is in some ways on its own a rather terrifying prospect. While we like Nick, we acknowledge that there are many who don’t. He is easily the most controversial pick for Bachelor since Brad Womack was invited back for a second time. Sure, there were people like Juan Pablo Galavis who were disliked after the fact, but entering that season you just have to remember that the majority of America loved him and thought he’d be great in the role. Given that Nick is passionate and opinionated, one good thing that should come from his season is the end of repetitive franchise tropes that have long dominated it.
Production is still underway on Nick’s season, and it will likely remain that way until close to the Thanksgiving holiday. Our feeling is that the cast reveal will come in December, while the first episode of the new season will air come January. We’re excited already to see what some of the drama will be.
