‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 spoilers: Is there hope for Severide, Kidd in the future?
At the end of this past episode of “Chicago Fire,” it felt fairly clear that we weren’t going to be seeing a relationship in the immediate future between Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd; however, we don’t quite think that the door is fully closed on the idea of them together just yet.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite sound like Taylor Kinney’s firefighter is going to be feeling like patching things up and getting into something committed with her in the near future. Speaking per Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Michael Brandt does a good job of laying out the groundwork for where these characters are right now, and some of what works both for and against the two of them:
“Severide is always going to be Severide, and I don’t think, as writers, we’re ready to tie Severide down yet … It’s fun watching him do his thing. Kidd is a wildcard though, and she’s very interesting and she’s got a lot of spunk — she’s the kind of girl that Severide would be attracted to, but she’s also not the kind of girl who’s going to fall for his antics. So, for now, we’re being true to who the characters are and neither one of them is ready to make the move fully towards the other one.”
One thing that could make it a little bit more challenging for the two parties moving forward is the presence of Travis Brenner, the social-media party boy who could serve as a temptation for Severide to get into more of his lifestyle. There’s a certain part of life where partying constantly is a little more socially acceptable, but it’s easy to argue that he’s far beyond that now. Therefore, we figure that this is going to be a little bit of a challenge for him trying to move forward, and get anything going on the relationship front, while this guy is around and influencing him — and we know he’ll be around for at least the immediate future.
