‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6, episode 5 preview: ‘Street Rats’ brings Aladdin, Jasmine to forefront
For the past week or two, ABC has feverishly promoted the appearance of Aladdin and Jasmine on “Once Upon a Time” as one of the biggest events of the season, and we do understand why. After all, this is one of the biggest Walt Disney properties out there, and the show is owned by the House of Mouse. They’ve gotten great mileage over time out of Cinderella, the Little Mermaid, and for a batch of episodes “Frozen,” so why not go ahead with “Aladdin” here?
Given that the network doesn’t tend to release many details of their episodes in advance, all we know about next week’s installment starts with the name “Street Rats.” That’s a reference to a phrase from the movie. We also know that Oded Fehr is going to be playing the part of Jafar, taking over the part from Naveen Andrews. Given the end of Jekyll and Hyde on Sunday night, we could be setting the stage for a new arc with some new villains. Sound interesting?
While the promo below doesn’t necessarily give too much away in terms of Aladdin’s story, what we do get a sense of through it is this: We’re going to have a few exciting opportunities to learn about the origins of both him and Jasmine as a couple. Hopefully, this will tell us in part why Jasmine is in Storybrooke, and if we are going to be seeing Jafar turn up here, as well.
Oh, and one other thing: Apparently, this is going to tie back to Emma Swan’s own future, as well. While it may not have been at the center of tonight’s episode, remember that there is still that premonition from her future that she should be worried about.
