‘Supernatural’ season 12, episode 2 preview: Rick Springfield joins Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles
Tonight, the premiere episode of “Supernatural” season 12 came on The CW, and with that we think there was a little bit of everything. You got funny moments, family feels with Mary Winchester, and a search for Sam after what happened with him and the British Men of Letters.
Unfortunately, the search for Jared Padalecki’s character is far from over at present. This is going to continue to play a big role on next week’s “Mamma Mia” — which should be about Mary to a large degree just based on that name alone. The synopsis, meanwhile, offers up a little more insight — and lets us in on the big debut of Rick Springfield in what should be a really entertaining role:
“Dean (Jensen Ackles), Castiel (Misha Collins) and Mary (guest star Samantha Smith) have a lead on Sam (Jared Padalecki) and set out to rescue him. Dean is uncomfortable with putting Mary in danger but she insists on going along. Meanwhile, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) is tipped off that Lucifer has taken over the body of rock star Vince Vicente (guest star Rick Springfield).”
We gotta admit — given the show’s affinity for classic rock at times, we would probably die with joy of Vicente at some point busts out a rendition of “Jessie’s Girl.” It would take the meta-ness of this show to yet another level.
The promo below offers up a brief glimpse at Springfield’s role, but in general, this suggests mostly just fun as Castiel discovers Sam’s location, but quickly discovers that there are some significant hurdles standing in the way. Here’s to hoping that he and Dean figure this out in time before Sam gets tormented even more. Does he really need to be shot by anyone else?
