Kristin Chenoweth performs the ‘Game of Thrones’ theme song on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
The “Game of Thrones” theme song is undoubtedly one of the most famous of its kind in all of television. Specifically, it’s the sort that makes grown-ups want to stomp around their house singing it in an aggressive fashion while you wait for the episode to air. Maybe some do it to annoy their roommates, or maybe some just can’t help it. Who are we to judge? There are probably some out there who just fast-forward through it on HBO NOW to get to the rest of the episode (we’ve done it before).
When you are Kristin Chenoweth, meanwhile, you possess the ability to perform said theme song well — not an easy task, given that there aren’t any words. Earlier this summer, a video from her hit the internet of her singing an operatic version of the theme (the former “Pushing Daisies” star is trained in opera) as a vocal warm-up. On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this week, she did the song in front of his audience complete with fiery background and also Valyrian Steel in hand. Basically, this is probably the closest you’re going to get in late-night comedy to watching war break out in Westeros.
Also, this may be the closest you come to hearing the “Game of Thrones” theme song on television over the next nine months. The show started filming later this year than usual in order to accommodate the arrival of winter in Westeros, and as a result of that HBO is pushing the premiere until summer. There are only seven episodes coming next year, but with potential battles coming either at King’s Landing or at sea, there are many chances for excitement ahead.
For now, just enjoy the Kristin Chenoweth rallying cry — and wonder how a human being can possibly hit all of these notes.
