‘The X Factor’ UK petition forms to boot Honey G; does it even matter?
In what is one of the least surprising news items out there, people aren’t happy that Honey G is in the top 12 of “The X Factor” this season. The rapper has been thought of by some as a comedy act more so than a genuine performer, and we do think it’s right that there is a zero percent chance that she wins this competition. She’s a tool for the show to generate ratings and social-media discussion, and we don’t think ITV or the show producers care too much about the people threatening to not watch the show anymore. Some of them probably will anyway.
Heck, we don’t think that they would care at all about a new petition floating around out there to replace Honey G with Samantha Atkinson. This was apparently started up by Samantha’s cousin, who feels understandably that she was slighted in not getting a spot for the live show.
So what will Simon Cowell and company do about this said petition? Honestly, they’ll probably just laugh at it and then ignore its existence. This is precisely why the producers probably want Honey G in the live shows, and they’re not going to take a spot from her.
Now that we’ve said this, we wouldn’t be shocked if the live shows started with a 13th performer as a wild card, given that this is something that we’ve seen them do before. As of right now, we’d say that if that happens, it’ll probably go to Christian Burrows of the Boys before anyone else … or at least this is how it should work.
