‘Outlander’ season 3 spoilers: Meet the older Fergus!

Outlander -At the moment “Outlander” is in the midst of a publicity spree thanks to an Entertainment Weekly cover story, and one of the more notable headlines in there — at least to us — comes from the perspective of casting.

Per a report from the publication, French actor César Domboy (“Borgia”) has been cast as the older version of the now-not-so-wee Fergus on the upcoming third season. We’re jumping forward decades, so it’s no shock that the show needed to move away from a child actor here!

The official Starz description gives you a pretty good sense as to where this character is at when we return to the series next year:

“Born into a brothel, Fergus has grown up into a charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing. He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily. However, Fergus’ devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan. Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging.”

As someone who is not a book reader, our feeling of excitement here comes mostly from a desire to see what happens when we get some of these characters so many years later, and seeing how they’ve changed and evolved over time. Even if you are faithful to the source material, early indications suggest that there will be some changes here and there to help keep things interesting.
