‘Secrets and Lies’ season 2, episode 1 video: What to expect during premiere
It’s been a long time since “Secrets and Lies” first aired on ABC; specifically, it’s been close to a year and a half since the first season came to a close. Why that long delay? It’s hard to pinpoint the reason since this season was supposedly ready to air a long time ago; maybe the network just wanted to make sure that it had the right timeslot and therefore the best chance to succeed. If you recall, season 1 was a bit of a surprise hit, so the hope here clearly is that season 2 will be the same — though the long layoff does worry us.
In case you haven’t had a chance to read up on the new season or forgot in the time since it was first announced, Andrea Cornell is going to be the only main character from the first season returning here in a major capacity, and she has a very different case to take on. You can see some of those details in the synopsis below:
“Eric Warner (Michael Ealy) is at the top of his game. Smart, well-educated and hardworking, he is the heir apparent to his family private equity firm in Charlotte, North Carolina. Newly married to “the one” and walking on air, Eric is flush with success, but all of that is about to change.
In the premiere, “The Fall,” Eric is attending a party to honor his dad passing over the reins of the company to him, when suddenly tragedy strikes. Eric’s smart and beautiful wife, Kate Warner (Jordana Brewster), is found dead, and life, as he knows it, is over. Overseeing the case is the unflappable and formidable Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis). She immediately puts the grieving husband in her crosshairs, but, as always, secrets seep out about this seemingly perfect family and turn their world upside down. As Eric battles to prove his innocence and save the family’s company, he discovers that his beloved Kate and the rest of his family are not who they appeared to be.”
The idea for the season is certainly a strong one, given that it touches on some ideas such as corruption, power, and just how easily you can find something to hide behind if you’ve got the right resources. The sneak peek below may be short, but it is a worthy reminder of just how Andrea is not to be trifled with. She makes it clear that even if Warner is not cooperative, she’ll find a way to get the information she needs.
