‘Dancing with the Stars 23’ week 2 spoilers: Jake T. Austin, Amber Rose, others take on TV theme

Jake T Austin -

Maybe there are some people out there who prefer their “Dancing with the Stars” episodes pure, and as a result of that appreciate the show so much more when every dance is traditional. For us, we don’t mind the frequent themes and genre-building. It brings more social traffic to the show, and in turn we think that only does wonders for ratings.

If you look below, you can see what all of the Stars are going to be dancing on a night that is all about celebrating TV and some of the great songs over the years. Suffice it to say, there are some interesting choices.

Jake T. Austin & Jenna Johnson – cha cha – “Go, Diego, Go! Theme” – Given his own connection to the show, doesn’t this feel appropriate? It’s certainly a smart play to try and recruit some votes from people who are fans of that show.

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds & Allison Holker – Argentine Tango – “The X-Files Theme” – This sounds somewhat odd in theory, but who knows? This is one of those choices that is so out there that it won’t quite work.

Marilu Henner & Derek Hough – foxtrot – “Taxi Theme” – Much like Jake, Marilu has some nostalgia on her side here as she gets to do a routine inspired by one of the shows she is most famous for. This should appeal to older viewers.

Laurie Hernandez & Valentin Chmerkovskiy – jive – “Ducktails” – Is Laurie even old enough to understand the greatness of this show? We wonder.

James Hinchcliffe & Sharna Burgess – Paso Doble – ”A Tribute to Walking Dead” – He was one of the surprise standouts of week one, and a zombie dance has the potential to be both odd and wonderful.

Calvin Johnson Jr. & Lindsay Arnold – foxtrot – “Family Matters Theme” – Given how many people love “Family Matters,” the reviews should be fairly positive here.

Terra Jolé & Sasha Farber – quickstep – “Bewitched” – For whatever reason we get this and the “I Dream of Jeannie” theme song mixed up in our head, but this one should be really fun.

Jana Kramer & Gleb Savchenko – tango – “I Don’t Want to Be” from “One Tree Hill” – Bonus points if you get former contestant Gavin DeGraw back to sing it.

Ryan Lochte & Cheryl Burke – quickstep – “The Muppet Show Theme” – Lochte just needs something funny and silly at this point. Maybe this is the cure for what ails him.

Maureen McCormick & Artem Chigvintsev – quickstep – “Brady Bunch Theme” – Be honest: You saw this one coming a mile away. We just don’t know how this is a quickstep.

Rick Perry & Emma Slater – quickstep – “Green Acres Theme” – Is Perry going to dance to songs all about southern livin’ for his entire run on the season? The answer to that is “possibly.”

Amber Rose & Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Viennese Waltz – “Game of Thrones Theme” – This should be EPIC. Maks is one of the more intense pros, and we think Amber is a commanding-enough personality to do some real wonders with this.

Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) & Witney Carson – foxtrot – “Love and Marriage” from “Married…with Children” – This is a complete turnaround from the opening routine, which was fun if lacking in content. Consider this the first real chance to see if Robert can actually dance.
