‘Dancing with the Stars 23’: Ryan Lochte finally opens up further on ambushing
Other than a brief statement following Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” premiere, Ryan Lochte has for the most part remained quiet about what happened with two men ambushing him on stage. The scene created quite a stir, and has since generated a ton of conversation. While ultimately no one seems to be seriously hurt, it was one of the scarier moments that we’ve seen on stage over the years.
In choosing to speak out about the subject now on his Twitter, the Olympic swimmer made it clear that those working on the show could not be supportive, and that they have done a great job working to make him comfortable in the wake of what happened:
“I want to thank my family, girlfriend, friends and fans for being so supportive of me after the incident on Dancing With the Stars Monday night … When I was asked to do the show, the one thing that I kept hearing was that it was like joining a big family. After Monday’s incident, I now know what that means. I have gotten so much love from everyone on the show, including my partner Cheryl [Burke], my fellow competitors, the producers, the security team and its fans. I appreciate the opportunity to be part of the show, and more than ever I am dedicated to my new family and to working hard to do my best.”
As we said following the incident, we do think if nothing else that this will lead to at least a minor boost for Lochte in terms of the public support or votes. In the end, though, we do think the quality of his dancing will determine his longevity more than anything, and there will be some who aren’t interested in voting for him regardless due to what happened in Rio.
As we have already reported, there are conversations happening about potentially adding more security to “Dancing with the Stars” before the upcoming episode airs, and it is pretty easy to understand why given all of this. Our hope is mostly just everyone will just move on now.
