‘Dancing with the Stars 23’: Cheryl Burke speaks out further on Ryan Lochte situation
We imagine that by the end of the week the “Dancing with the Stars” drama surrounding Ryan Lochte is going to start calming down, but at present, there’s no questioning to us that this is the TV story everyone is still discussing, and we understand why. Often one of the joys of live television is that anything can happen, but at times this is also one of the downsides since there are (unfortunately) some people out there who think that furthering along their own agenda is far more important than anything else in the world.
As we’ve said a few times over now, personally we don’t absolve Lochte of anything that happened with the Rio controversy; what he did was pretty terrible, as was the way he handled it after the fact. Yet, at the same time this was neither thetime nor the venue, since this is a show about fun, about embracing challenges. This is something that we’ve heard many familiar faces with the show discuss over the past 24 hours, and it is also something that Cheryl Burke discussed today on Facebook:
“I’m still trying to process everything that happened last night … My heart is aching for Ryan and his family. No one deserves that sort of behavior directed at them. We all need to love each other and not be bullies or cowards.”
While the producers of the show may do what they can to improve security measures, obviously the danger going into next week is that these protesters seemed to just wear their anti-Lochte shirts under what they wore into the show, and you can’t exactly get into an invasion of privacy with every person who walks into the studio. Hopefully, people just have the decency to change things up.

I admit I haven’t had much use for Lochte …before Rio, and obviously especially after. In fact I was considering not watching any of DTWS on principle when they signed him.
However, watching last night (giving benefit of the doubt that nothing was staged from any corner) I struggled, but actually felt bad for him – he looked genuinely shocked & upset (*admitting here that “stupefied” was the first word that came to mind – and did he hide behind her?), and then Cheryl saying he was genuinely nice…
Anyway, like you I’m not even close to letting him off the hook for Rio… but I firmly agree that nobody should be treated that way, if indeed he’s genuinely trying his best.
