‘South Park’ season 20 premiere taking on National Anthem

South Park -Over the years, one of the things that we’ve really learned about “South Park” is that they can operate on a short schedule like nobody’s business. They can take on a subject that is playing out in the headlines now, and turn it around into a full-fledged story a mere matter of days later.

Well, on Wednesday’s season 20 premiere of the comedy, we’re going to have a chance to see Mr. Garrison continue his quest to become President, which of course is going to be a complete disaster just like whatever tan he has on his face. Also, the synopsis (via Uproxx) certainly suggests that we could see “The Star-Spangled Banner” also play a role in some shape or form: “The National Anthem gets a reboot by an American Icon.”

It’s hard to know entirely who this “American Icon” is in advance, but we’re certainly rather confident at present that this is a clear nod to what is going on in terms of the recent National Anthem controversy at NFL games, where many players have chosen to either kneel or sit down out of protest of certain key issues in the country. Given that this is “South Park,” whatever their perspective is will likely be both incredibly biting and hilarious at the same time.

Also, it’s certainly possible that they’ll sneak a few things in there that nobody sees coming just for the sake of blowing everyone away.

You can see a sneak peek for the new season below, but it really is the shortest thing ever and won’t give you much of a clue at all about the story.
