‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Something major coming for Felicity

Through the early part of “Arrow” season 5, one thing has been made fairly clear for the character of Felicity Smoak: She may be still trying to come to terms with everything that happened at Havenrock. When you think about precisely what she went through, can you really blame her for having to take some time to work through some issues there?

We’re not going to spend too much time in this article thinking about that, though; instead, we’re looking far into the future, given that the tease below from executive producer Marc Guggenheim (per Entertainment Weekly) is incredibly intriguing,and it may give us a better sense as to precisely where her story is going over the course of the year:

“We’re positioning her to do something in the second half of the year that is really, really key, and that isn’t about her relationship with Oliver or even necessarily her father or her mother. It’s really new territory for her, and we’ve very excited about it. Some big things are going to happen with Felicity.”

Of course, we do wonder already just what this could be, and if it is tied in some way into Oliver training a number of vigilantes. Could she do more out in the field, or make some sort of huge movement forward in her career? We’ve had some “Felicity episodes” at times over the course of the season, but they’ve often involved something from her past. For the sake of season 5, we’d like to see her have a storyline that is geared more towards her present, and what she is accomplishing independent of everyone else out there.
