‘Dancing with the Stars 23’ spotlight: Will Maureen McCormick, Artem Chigvintsev capture some magic?

Maureen McCormick -

Maureen McCormick is not the flashiest casting that “Dancing with the Stars” made this season, and it is certainly not capturing a whole lot of attention from the media. Yet, at the same time, there’s something so delightfully old-school about her casting, as it reminds us of the earlier seasons of the show when it was less about casting controversial people or reality stars.

We ultimately have no idea how McCormick will do on the show, but we do feel like it’ll at least be pretty fun with her around. She’s been around this business long enough to know that this is a competition meant to be embraced and celebrated. It’s fun, and while you want to win, you also do want to embrace the journey.

Claim to fame – Actress, best known for playing the Marcia Brady character on “The Brady Bunch” and a wide array of other spin-offs. from here, she has done a number of other TV shows and movies.

Partner – Artem Chigvintsev. We’d love for Artem to have a really big season this fall given that he wasn’t a part of season 21, and then his time in season 22 was relatively short-lived due to Mischa Barton’s early elimination. We’re looking forward to seeing him with someone who should know how to have fun out there.

Strengths – The majority of the “Dancing with the Stars” audience likely grew up with “The Brady Bunch” on the air, so we do think she appeals well to their demographic and will have fans. The more she plays up the nostalgia and shows off her personality, the better off she is going to be this season. A good model for her here would be Alfonso Ribeiro, who was game enough to do the Carlton on the show and appeal to fans everywhere.

Weaknesses – At 60, she’s not going to have the athletic ability of someone like Laurie Hernandez who is still in her teens. She’s not going to be able to match some of the other Stars on a physical level, so she’s really going to have to emphasize the performance and creativity in order to win fans over.

Prediction – As a whole, we’d say that Maureen probably has a ceiling somewhere around the top five or six, and she could be gone before that since we do think the better dancers do tend to be rewarded more on average towards the end. With that being said, we’d really like to see her do well just because it will be fun to see her back on TV in a big way.
