‘The Last Ship’ season 3, episode 10 review: Tex and Kara’s attempt to turn things around
Last week on “The Last Ship,” we saw the further dissolution of America, Chandler defying orders, and also Chandler further cementing to everyone precisely how awesome he is. Ultimately, there’s no real surprise there!
So where did we go tonight? Well, let’s just say that there were some further shocks as we saw Kara and Tex do just about everything they could to turn things around for the United States. Tex, his daughter, and Kara did everything that they could to get into the White House and get President Oliver to safety. (What does this show have against Presidents, really?) That was the great news, but it was ultimately short-lived given the surprising amount of power Allison Shaw really has. She basically declared Chandler and his crew traitors, and the entire military could end up being in some grave danger.
Suddenly, the good news that Chandler has freed himself of Peng and company is not so amazing, is it?
From start to finish, there were a lot of great individual moments in this episode, and we don’t want to trivialize it by talking in such general terms. The Tex scenes were above all fantastic, though that may be in part because we missed seeing him so. Meanwhile, Chandler’s latest twist is a sharp move to put him in more danger, even as he is heading home.
The issue with this episode is that you can argue that almost nothing was really accomplished, but that’s a part of the natural plan when you are two hours out from the finale. You’re well aware that it will take more time to tie some loose ends together, and you just have to be okay with an inconclusive feeling. For now, we are. Grade: B.
