‘Victoria’ episode 2 preview: What lies ahead on Jenna Coleman’s ITV series?
Tonight on ITV, the network is debuting arguably their most-ambitious series since the end of “Downton Abbey” in “Victoria,” a lengthy look at the life of a particularly famous queen starring Jenna Coleman in the title role. The former “Doctor Who” star has her biggest platform to date, and she is using it wonderfully based on what we saw tonight.
The first thing that you should know about what lies ahead with this new series is that the next episode will air at a particularly unusual time: Monday night at 9:00 p.m., as opposed to one week from tonight. It is not entirely clear what the reasoning for the move is, other than perhaps an attempt by the network to get some quality episodes in the bank before the BBC comes in with “Poldark,” a major competitor for attention when you think about the audience that it already has. Monday night’s episode will also run for only an hour, which gives it in total a shorter runtime.
If you look below, you can get a few more details regarding what you can expect from the show:
“Lord Melbourne’s resignation as Prime Minister leaves Victoria devastated. As the ambitious Conroy and her uncle the Duke of Cumberland scheme against her, the vulnerable queen devises a risky plot to get Melbourne back. Her stubborn approach soon threatens to undermine the foundations of the monarchy.”
We anticipate the show taking a somewhat methodical approach to storytelling, and that does some sense given that we’re focusing on a particular point in her life, and at the same exact time, there’s no hurry to move along a series that is about capturing the essence of a particular time.
