‘Game of Thrones’ season 7: Maisie Williams fine with timing of series’ end
It’s easy to feel sad that “Game of Thrones” is ending, mostly because with the ratings that the show has already amassed, it’s easy to assume that the sereis could have easily gone on for another three or four years without too much trouble. Instead, season 8 in 2018 is going to be the last one for the drama, and given that we’ve only got 13 episodes left in general, it could feel to some very much feeling like we’re really just getting a slightly-longer season split into two years.
Ultimately, the way we look at the impending departure is like this: As great as it could be to have a lot more, this gives an opportunity to have the show end close to its peak in popularity, and before its audience starts to wane. We’re seeing that at present with “The Walking Dead,” and we attribute that to a combination of things including longer seasons, controversial story decisions, and also the lack of a defined end in sight. It’s better sometimes to have an ending on the way than running the risk of overstaying your welcome.
In a way, we feel like Maisie Williams (a.k.a. Arya Stark) says this best to Variety, as she tries to sum up her own emotions as we go into production on season 7 a little later this year.
“Good things must come to an end or they’re not good anymore. It doesn’t last forever, and we’ve done what we came to do. It’s time to wrap this up, and it will have the ending it was always supposed to have, and that’s very special.”
At this moment, Williams and others do at least have a solid idea already as to what to expect (the main cast has the scripts), and the level of excitement we’ve seen from her gives us hope that they will be awesome and then some.
