‘The Flash’ season 3 spoilers: Are we poised for a Black Flash return?

Black Flash -

At the end of “The Flash” season 2, there was a heck of an intense twist that personally, we never saw coming. How could you figure that the show would turn Zoom into Black Flash, a character who in the comics is effectively a grim reaper for Speedsters? It was a cool twist largely in that it keeps the character firmly entrenched in this world.

Yet, at the same exact time, that does not necessarily mean that Black Flash is turning up in the near future. Sears has a new gig on “24: Legacy” that could keep him busy, and the show is pressing on to deal with other characters like Savitar and Doctor Alchemy as their Big Bads. The situation that we’d compare this to is “Arrow” and Manu Bennett / Slade Wilson; you have an actor who is busy at times now doing other things, but if the right story came along and the stars aligned, we think there’s a chance we could see them again.

In speaking on leaving Zoom still out there — albeit in a different form — executive producer Andrew Kreisberg makes it very clear to Entertainment Weekly that this was a very deliberate move for the future:

“Obviously we did that on purpose. We love working with Teddy [Sears]. He’s such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season. There aren’t any immediate plans for that, but you can’t keep a good Black Flash down, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing him in the future.”

Our feeling on the subject is ultimately this: Give everyone a little bit of time to find their footing in the new world, and have them believe that maybe they have a reasonable chance at never seeing this character again. That’s when you bring Hunter Zolomon back to, in turn, terrify much of the world.
