Is ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ done at Comedy Central?

In this week’s edition of “confusing news,” look no further than what is going on within the world of Amy Schumer! The comedian / writer / star of “Inside Amy Schumer” may have suggested that her Comedy Central show is done, even though technically there is another season that was ordered.

How we got here is somewhat confusing, but it starts back with Kurt Metzger, a one-time writer on her series who drew ire for a series of comments about rape victims that have spread all over the internet. He was ripped and heavily criticized for her comments, and eventually Schumer chimed in herself. Her post on Twitter made it clear that she “didn’t fire Kurt,” but that he “isn’t a writer for [her] show because we aren’t making the show anymore.”

Metzger has attempted to explain himself further in a series of posts on Facebook, saying that his original comments here taken out of context. Ultimately, we’ll leave that part of the discussion up to you because that is really not here to discuss.

If “Inside Amy Schumer” really is over, Comedy Central is losing one of its biggest perennial award contenders and a series that could’ve easily still had a tremendous amount of life in it. The primarily reason it would be going away would be seemingly because its star has enough on her plate elsewhere. “Trainwreck” was a box-office hit, and her recent book The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo has been for the most part getting positive reviews. There may enough on her plate at this point that she doesn’t need the show, and sometimes ending early has a more positive impact down the run. People still talk about “Chappelle’s Show” like it is the comedy holy grail.
