Jenna Coleman explains coming from ‘Doctor Who’ to ITV’s ‘Victoria’
Later this month on ITV, we’re going to see the network bust out something incredibly ambitious in “Victoria.” It’s a familiar narrative to many who live in the UK, but in between the lavish costumes and having Jenna Coleman in the title role, there is a lot to like here.
Here is ultimately the one thing we don’t quite like at all: The series running up against “Poldark” over on BBC One. Whoever thought that putting two historical dramas up against one another needs to be seriously questioned.
Anyway, what makes this series even more interesting for Coleman is that originally, she didn’t have any plans at all to continue in television. She explains this further in a new interview with Digital Spy:
“Funnily, when I left Doctor Who, the first thing I said was, ‘I just don’t want to do a series for a while’ – but it’s been such an adventure, I’ve loved it … I think when taking on something iconic, and someone who really existed, you definitely want to be sure that you can do it to the best of your ability.
“But ultimately, it was impossible to turn down. I would’ve been crazy. It’s a gift, it’s an absolute gift to be able to explore, and try and bring this to life.”
We definitely do think that this series will allow Coleman the chance to do something entirely different, and there should be some fun that comes along with that. Also, as an American viewer there is interest in general from a historical perspective, even how much of the monarchy is actually discussed here in America.
