‘Big Brother 18’ live feed spoilers: America’s Care Package-itis; Paulie fact-check

Nicole -Does everyone remember the dreaded HoH-itis in the “Big Brother” house? That is where you get so full of yourself while in power that you become somewhat insufferable.

This afternoon, Nicole started to suffer from a slightly different affliction in America’s Care Package-itis, where she feels completely empowered based on an awkward public vote that she should A) stick to her alliance, B) praise Corey and Paulie, thinking they’ll be getting one soon, and C) telling all of her fans to now vote for Corey to get something.

As you can imagine based on our tone here, it’s completely insufferable. Sure, James is also very annoying sometimes with his pandering to America and him practically being America’s Player at times, doing things just for the sake of whatever will make him popular, but we also don’t think he drones on about it in the same way. Plus, it’s a little different with him given that he is actually one of the most popular players in the house.

The funniest thing about Nicole’s big “win” is that she was basically awarded for being in fourth place. Either James or Natalie would’ve gotten another power (probably Natalie) if they were still eligible, while Bridgette was almost surely in third place before her eviction. As we noted earlier, if this was only based on the past 24 hours of voting we’d assume that either Paul or Big Meech would’ve gotten it.

It’s one thing seeing one person be completely delusional about their perceived popularity; it’s another to try to spread those delusions onto other people in Corey and Paulie, who are actually the most hated in the house.

The funny thing is that outside of the game, we’ve heard nothing but nice things about Nicole. The issue is that sometimes in the game, you adapt based on the people you are around, and the people she’s around just aren’t likable people. She has adopted some of their characteristics, while at the same time blowing up her one most frustrating one in her indecisive behavior.

Paulie cat-checking – Just for the sake of doing it, let’s have a little fun with Paulie’s horrendous claim that “Big Brother 16” was the highest-rated season of all time. Not even close. We don’t have full access to the 18-49 data over the years, but let’s just say that this show was down versus both seasons 15 and 14 in that measure. (We’re talking about live viewership here, which matters most to advertisers.)

In terms of total viewers, not only was season 16 not the most-watched ever, it was actually the least-watched season to date at the time it came out. Even “Big Brother 9” had a slightly better average viewership! Season 17 was slightly lower, but saying that this season was in the basement while season 16 was the pinnacle of “Big Brother” ratings is like saying a really tasty medium pizza is terrible because it’s not a large.
