‘Supernatural’ season 12 spoilers: Rick Springfield to play rockin’ vessel of Lucifer!

What's coming up? -

There were several interesting news items that came out of the “Supernatural” panel at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, but to us clearly one of the most interesting was the arrival of “Jessie’s Girl” singer Rick Springfield in a role that seems oddly perfect for this show: The latest vessel for Lucifer.

The actor, previous known for the “General Hospital” character Dr. Noah Drake, is playing here a man in the midst of a musical comeback. What seems interesting about this to us is that this is somebody who makes a living being out in public, so why would Lucifer choose him? Isn’t it going to a little bit harder making it appear as though nothing is going on? That is at least something to consider with this sort of role.

Now that we’ve said this, we imagine this will be a hoot. Springfield may have a little fun making fun of himself, while at the same time, we get more Lucifer on the show trying out a few different vessels over the coming episodes. For a good chunk of last season, or at least the part after Mark Pellegrino was back on the show, he had hopped into the body of Castiel (Misha Collins) for a while. That proved to be rather entertaining, though we are glad to have the old Castiel back in action, as well.

Hopefully, this will be just the beginning of a wonderful guest-star parade over the course of the coming weeks. While we’d argue that some shows really don’t need a lot of characters coming in and out, there’s something fun about seeing a known name here play around with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.
