‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 to be show’s last; Ian Somerhalder, cast react (video)

Salvatore -

We have to admit that the news out of San Diego Comic-Con today, at least in terms of “The Vampire Diaries,” was not exactly stunning. The show had been rumored to be ending for some time now, and the latest panel featuring the cast confirmed it.

In the video below, you can see the likes of executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, coupled with cast members Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, and many others, talk a little bit about the decision to end this show over the coming season, and what it means for all of them to be saying goodbye.

Personally, we gotta say that the show is doing the right thing here. In ending it at the end of the season, they are giving the writers plenty of time to craft the precise narrative many want to see from them. Not only that, but they are also allowing the fans plenty of time to prepare. It’s a two-way street, and we think with a show like this you do want there to be a little bit of time to sit back and reflect on what has transpired to date.

We will have some more news on the final season of the show soon, but for now, let’s take a minute and try to process precisely what the series meant for The CW. It premiered at a time when there was not a whole lot of other hit programs on the air, and it became an overnight sensation. The numbers have dipped since then, but the show does remain a huge hit around the world and there should be a great deal of curiosity in how it ends.
