‘The Last Ship’ season 3 Comic-Con trailer: Are Chandler, the government at odds?
While at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, “The Last Ship” released an epic trailer for the remainder of season 3, one that definitely suggested that there would be some carnage coming up. This is probably especially the case when you think for a little bit about a potential divide between the U.S. government and the crew of the Nathan James.
Has the tide turned in St. Louis? Through much of the season so far we’ve seen mounting pressure on President Michener, and this trailer does make us wonder if some opposition forces have taken hold, or have at least convinced him to engage in some things that he would not be otherwise interested in doing. If there is a divide here, it could mean serious problems for the James, which is troublesome given what they have already been up to on the other side of the world. Slattery was just rescued, and the team is struggling to figure out who they can really trust.
The remainder of the trailer raises more questions about Peng, features some epic battles, and also has Chandler reminiscing about his loyalty to his country and his history serving in the Navy. On an emotional level, it certainly suggests as though there could be more distress for him than ever before over the final episodes of this season.
What may make the remainder of these episodes even more epic in some way is the sole fact that TNT has yet to renew the show for a fourth season. Therefore, we have to brace ourselves for the possibility that we could be in the final season, even if we don’t want that to be the case.

I haven’t tuned into The Last Ship all season. With the knowledge that Dr. Scott did not survive (huge mistake here killing off a primary character who is the other half to this battle and who was a central person in Tom’s life, as well as the other members of the NJ), the fact that the crew would be divided (this strategy in my opinion did not work for Vikings or for The Good Wife), that instead of focusing on issues in the States, they went round the world and gave us a whole lot of bang and not a lot of anything else, and that a new female character (Sasha) was thrown into the mix to basically give Tom a love interest. This screams of lazy writing, a forced character, and a robbing of what was built for two seasons between Rachel and Tom. Relationships that come together organically is good writing – planned and force fed history does not. Anyway, with all that said, I lost interest in watching the show this season. I keep hoping there will be some clue that Dr. Scott is indeed alive and that perhaps President Michiner is aware of it (and maybe so is Sasha, but she’s part of a plan that is meant to stop the NJ and their mission), so I am keeping tabs, but I’m not holding my breath. If the show is not renewed for a 4th season, it would not surprise me given the mistakes of this season. It is unfortunate to because the show is unique and original and had something special. That quality to me was lost this season.
