‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ season 11, episode 5 review: Kelly Dodd, Shannon Beador and a crazy 70’s party
While there may not have been a lot happening on the last episode of “The Real Housewives of Orange County”, we did see Shannon extend a party invitation to Vicki, even though she’s made it clear that their friendship is pretty much over. Is Vicki going to come to the party?
This week’s episode is all focused on Shannon Beador’s 70’s party and while the planning for it is all fun and games, it looks like it’s not going to end well. Vicki got Shannon’s text invite to the party, and Vicki has decided to go and show Shannon that she’s ready to move forward. A great first step to mending some fences. There is already some tension between Kelly and Shannon before this party since they both rubbed each other the wrong way when they first met and from the preview we saw for this episode, we know that these two are going to pop off.
The party started off pretty well as Vicki and Tamra had a nice moment together and Heather was joining in on the fun with Vicki too, but that’s as much fun as we got. A woman named Jaci (a friend of Shannon’s) pushed Kelly’s buttons right away by bringing up seeing her and her boyfriend in Vegas during the time that Kelly and her husband were separated – a pot stirring move. Later while Kelly is looking for her purse, Jaci’s friend Nina goes off on Kelly and we really have no idea what the issue was, because Kelly didn’t say or do anything at this point. Tamra mentions that Nina and Jaci seemed to be picking a fight with Kelly on purpose, and Kelly feels that Shannon invited these two women as a way to set her up to be humiliated at the party.
Tamra tells Kelly about all the smack talk that’s going on through Nina and Jaci in the other room, so Kelly confronts the ladies who are sitting with Shannon. Things get turned up really fast when Kelly calls Shannon “Mrs. Roper” and Shannon tells Kelly to leave her party. Before Kelly can leave, Shannon makes a comment about Kelly being “hammered again tonight” which sparks further feuding.
While this is going, David and Vicki are getting into a fight in the other room over the Brook’s cancer lie (is this story ever going to end?). This argument ends with David telling her that she needs to come clean and Vicki saying that he’s a cheater and a bad man. Finally Vicki and Kelly start to leave the party, but not before Kelly turns to David and says “no wonder you cheated on your wife” – a jaw dropping moment for everyone at the party and for us at home too. Shannon calls Kelly out on an affair that she allegedly had and that ends the screaming match. Once in the car we saw Vicki call Brooks to tell him that she’s still dealing with all this nonsense that he’s stirred up 9 months later and wants him to call David to tell him the truth about her not being involved in the lie.
This was a crazy episode, and one of the craziest fights we’ve seen on the show (and there have been a lot over the years). The one moment that we really liked though was the talk between Heather and Terry, where he acknowledged that he isn’t around enough and is missing out on his kids growing up. We are hoping that means that he will be around more, not only for Heather and the kids, but also selfishly for fans of the show that love the dynamic and chemistry between Heather and Terry on screen. Episode grade: A-
