‘The Bachelorette’: Don’t believe the Britney Spears hype
Have you seen some of the new tabloid rumors out there suggesting that Britney Spears could be the next “Bachelorette“? Well, if you’ve avoided them, you’re probably a better person for it.
It feels that at least once a year, we write about something on this subject. We’ve certainly discussed this in the vein of a Tim Tebow or Amy Schumer. It makes sense for tabloids to proclaim that a star could be in the running for the lead. It makes sense for sources close to the show to do the same. The tabloids have always served as a promotional angle for a show with a very-cynical audience, and the show appreciates (most) of the attention. At times, those affiliated with it like to fan the flames.
Then, eventually, someone puts said flame out. The simple reason why Britney, or any other celebrate, will not be “The Bachelorette” is all about motive. What’s the reason for ABC to hire someone noteworthy when they don’t need to? The average 18-49 rating for this season with JoJo Fletcher is close to the year before featuring Kaitlyn Bristowe, and will probably rise once we get to the finale. In turn, Kaitlyn’s season was up more than 10% versus Andi Dorfman’s. With ratings this strong, why change things up? They’d have to may a celebrity a much larger fee, and the appeal here is the illusion of true love. Selling the audience on a celebrity falling for a complete unknown is hard to do.
Ultimately, the next “Bachelorette” will likely be someone rejected from the next season of “The Bachelor.” That guy is someone who has likely been on this season. We’re still looking at you, Luke Pell!
