‘Ballers’ season 2 video: Introducing Andy Garcia’s character

The second season of “Ballers” premieres on HBO come Sunday, July 17, and to lead up to that, why not meet a new character? The video below features Dwayne Johnson and others introducing us to Andre Allen, a new rival to Spencer played by Andy Garcia. He’s a smart guy, a craft guy, and also someone who has a history with Spencer already.

Will Andre prove himself to be formidable? You have to think so, given that he has one thing Spencer does not: Experience. He’s been in the athlete business for a long time, and understands all in terms of dollars and cents. It’s also certainly possible he will be doing things that Spencer will not.

In general, “Ballers” season 2 should pick up in an interesting place. Ricky seems to have combed through some of his problems, but his father’s not going away. Also, he has still lost his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Charles has made it back onto a team, but can he actually keep that position? There are some self-destructive tendencies we’ve seen from other characters. This is without even getting into Vernon, a guy who seems well-intentioned but doesn’t always have the right people around him giving out advice.

Ultimately, here’s to hoping Garcia lifts “Ballers” to another level. The first season definitely had a few things going for it, but you want to see things constantly move forward in a positive direction. Rest assured that we are going to have some other coverage when it comes to the series over the course of the coming weeks! (Heck, we even recently rewatched the first season just to prepare for it.)
