‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Popular’ alum set to play Coast City reporter

The fifth season of “Arrow” is still assembling its guest cast, but what surprises us specifically about this new report is that we’re hearing about a territory that we haven’t seen in some time in Coast City. Granted, there is a difference between hearing about it and actually seeing it.

TV Insider was the first to report that Carly Pope of “Popular Fame” is going to be appearing starting in the third episode of the season as Susan Williams, a hot-shot reporter from the city who comes to Star City in hopes of landing a huge interview with the new / super-popular mayor in Oliver Queen. Does this happen? That is still to be seen, but we presume that the show is going to at least give us something when it comes to this side of Stephen Amell’s character.

What may be even more interesting about this casting news to us is that in the comics, the Susan character is the wife of Jim Jordan, the brother of none other that Green Lantern / Coast City hero Hal Jordan. However, there’s been no indication that the Green Lantern himself is firmly in this universe just yet … though there were rumors about Diggle becoming him for a time. There were a few years where we severely doubted this was going to happen thanks to the stranglehold that DC Comics was putting on their characters, but now that they have allowed “Supergirl” to cast Superman, who knows? Maybe the floodgates will open in time, even if there is a Green Lantern movie coming up.
