‘Supernatural’ season 12: Jared Padalecki speaks on Mary’s return
At the end of the Amara storyline of “Supernatural” season 12, we had what was effectively a gift being given to Dean in the form of his mother Mary’s return. It’s a chance for him to understand someone who has not been a part of his life for so long.
Does Sam have that same hunger? It’s hard for him to, given that she was only around for such a small percentage of his life. Yet, we do still know that this is going to be a key cog of the story moving forward, and he will probably have some time to spend with her over the course of at least the first part of the season. In previewing where his character is at on the subject, at least emotionally, Jared Padalecki had the following to say (per TVLine):
“I think a part of Sam is very curious. He’s a thinker, he’s an intellect. Part of him wants to have some sort of closure with his father, with his mother.
“Sam is one of these interesting people who feels the void, even if he didn’t ever know it … They say, ‘If you don’t know something, you don’t know what you’re going to miss.’ But I think Sam knows what he’s missing.”
We are of course curious how long Mary will be around, but even if it’s not long, this cliffhanger probably still will be worth it. We like the fact that new showrunners Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb are proving themselves right away by touching on series mythology rather than just introducing a new story immediately that will take us down a different road. Granted, it’s not like these two guys are new to the show, either.
