‘The Bachelor’ alum Ben Higgins talks new reality show with Lauren Bushnell
Earlier this week, we got some news that was certainly a surprise to us, as Ben Higgins became the first star of “The Bachelor” franchise to get a reality show after the fact focusing on his life. This wasn’t a situation where he just got on another show; instead, Freeform is going to be airing “Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After,” which chronicles he and Lauren Bushnell’s lives as they start to figure out what they want following the ABC show.
So what exactly will this show be even about? It’s a good question, and that is something that Higgins was willing to describe further in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“I think they saw a really good start to our love story, kind of our love story coming full circle, but Lauren and I are the first to tell you The Bachelor’s really great to us. I think you can meet somebody through it, obviously, but you’re also dating somebody else until the moment that you commit to spend the rest of your life with that person, so it’s a weird thing. Our relationship has really grown and built a foundation post-Bachelor even. What The Bachelor didn’t show is the foundational points to our relationship, which are communication, working through issues, our faith. Those things are really important and I hope this new show explores those things.”
The one thing that this new show really will need to do is sell their personalities as individuals, since on “The Bachelor,” there is such a formula that it is really hard to have any real sense of individuality that shines through. It’s hard to get much humor or silliness while talking about “fairy tales.”
