‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: The fake ‘Black Canary’ returns as Artemis
Who knew when “Arrow” first introduced the character of Black Canary impersonator Evelyn Sharp on the show last season that we’d be seeing more of her beyond one episode? However, that appears to now be the case.
According to a new report from Variety, Madison McLaughlin is poised to appear in several season 5 episodes once more as the character, with one of the big twists being that she will not take on the alter ego of Artemis, a famed archer from DC Comics lore. She will first surface during the second episode of the season.
For the most part, we really do like the idea of bringing this character back provided that she is struggling with some of the same issues of identity, mostly because this is a mental struggle we have not seen with some of the other heroes on this show. We like seeing the struggle to do good portrayed on here, especially when it comes in a way where there are clear and viable alternatives that could be damaging to some of the other characters.
Ultimately, we’ll have a chance to discuss further some of the characters that we get a chance to meet on the upcoming season, but we hope that the producers are really seizing a chance of redemption. While we do think that season 4 was a nice improvement over season 3, they still have a little bit of work to do in order to recapture the magic of the first two seasons, which were intense and really focused on some great characters.
