‘The Flash’ season 3: Candice Patton teases what is next for Iris, Barry

Iris -

The third season of “The Flash” will be premiering on The CW this fall, and as we’ve said a few times over at this point, we know that there is one question that everyone is dying to know: How in the world Flashpoint is going to impact everything with this series.

It’s unavoidable now that the producers have opened the can of worms courtesy of going back in time and saving his mother Nora. Thanks to his, his father will never be arrested, he will not end up living with Joe West, and his relationship with Iris may not be there at all. This is something that Candice Patton addressed recently to Newsweek, though she did offer up a little reason to have hope thanks to all of the different forms their relationship has taken already on both Earth-2 and also future timelines:

“Fans are anxiously waiting to figure out if West/Allen has been erased. I think fans can rest assured, we’ve established on this show, Barry and Iris have a relationship that’s destined. They’ll find each other on different timelines and multiverses … I’ve never needed to see them be together right away. I’ve always been a proponent of letting that stretch out over time, having relationships with other characters…so that when they do get together it’s meaningful.”

At this point, we definitely do think that pairing the two characters up would be meaningful, and it would offer up a chance to fully explore what a superhero relationship is like in this world. The last two girlfriends that Barry had in Linda Park and Patty Spivot weren’t actually aware of his powers for the majority of the time they were with them; Linda learned later, while Patty only figured it out at the end and Barry would never admit it to her.

We’ll hopefully learn a thing or two more about “The Flash” and the future over the weeks ahead; stay tuned!
