NBC’s ‘The Voice’ alum Christina Grimmie dead at 22 after shooting
We certainly wish there was better news to report tonight on the condition of former “The Voice” contestant and YouTube star Christina Grimmie.
Earlier tonight, we reported that following a concert in Orlando with the band Before You Exit, a man approached the singer and shot her three times. She was immediately hospitalized and placed into critical condition, and at that point a constant stream of love and well-wishes came in from not just her fans, but also people who knew her on “The Voice” along with fellow stars from the YouTube world. It has shown that this show and the web are a community who will support each other when times are tough, and there are few times tougher than this.
Unfortunately, the worst news possible has come in as sources confirm that the singer has died at the age of 22 as a result of these injuries. The shooter killed himself on the scene, and there are still details coming regarding a potential motive or identification. In a statement (per ABC News), a rep had the following to say:
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning. If you’d like to give back to Christina’s family in her memory, please consider donating to the families GoFundMe page in their time of need.”
We will have more reactions to this devastating news tomorrow, but for now our heart goes out to Grimmie’s fans, family, and friends during what has to be an impossibly difficult, tragic time. We appreciated her talent and enjoyed watching her compete. May she rest in peace. (Photo: NBC.)
