‘The Last Ship’ season 3 spoilers: About Chandler’s new mission

Chandler -Season 2 of “The Last Ship” ended with some dramatic flourishes, with one of the biggest ones being Chandler (Eric Dane) getting appointed to help oversee the Navy by President Michener, a man he worked so hard to save. While we don’t know whether or not Rachel survived the events of last season just yet, this is not going to stop Chandler from having to head east to take on some more challenges.

In previewing more of the struggle for the cure next season, and also Chandler being thrown into a more important role than ever before, executive producer Steven Kane had the following to say to TVLine:

“Season 3 is grittier and more global in scale, but on an emotional level it’s more about the burden that Chandler faces — which is something he didn’t ask for … When some troublemakers overseas threaten to hoard the cure — and maybe even cause a mutation of the virus because they don’t get the cure out there fast enough — the only person the president thinks has the moral authority to get anything done and make a difference is Chandler.”

“[However,] Chandler doesn’t like being considered a hero, and he’s also in a state of grief over what he’s personally lost and what the country’s lost. He’s trying to remain resolute and do his duty but… it’s not easy being Superman.”

Who doesn’t love a story featuring a morally-conflicted hero? It may not be the best position in the world for Chandler to be in, but at the same time, there is a lot of potential for this to be a supremely entertaining story for us as a viewer.
