‘Bachelor in Paradise 3’ spotlight: Is Carly Waddell coming back at the right time?

CarlyJared Haibon and Carly Waddell are making their third appearance on a “Bachelor”-themed show in under two years with “Bachelor in Paradise” this summer, and while we like the two of them, we’re still left to wonder one thing: Are they coming back a little bit too early?

The good news about Carly is that we think that she’s still got a shot. She was viewed rather warmly by fans last season when she got her heart broken at the last second, and she clearly wants something to work out through this experience. This is the second straight year with the same location, so who knows? Maybe she can show the contestants the ropes.

Show experience – After being eliminated on Chris Soules’ season Carly lasted a good while during season 2 of “Paradise,” but she and Kirk split during one of the most devastating breakups that we have ever seen through the show. It was easy to feel for her, and wonder how she would do again given a chance to date more than one person extensively. It’s for this reason (she spent almost all of her time with Kirk) that we’re fine with her being back so soon.

Romance potential – Moderate. There’s no guarantee that the guys in Paradise will pick Carly over some more recent-contestants, but she at least has a chance since she’s not really thought off as much of a villain, and she seems to be fairly open to a wide array of people.

Drama potential – Moderate. Carly’s not immune to stirring things up here and there, but we don’t think she was necessarily cast for that. The dilemma for ABC is that they don’t want to have a cast of people from entirely one season, but at the same time, they need memorable contestants. It’s sometimes hard to find people from previous seasons that the average viewer is going to be able to recall.
