‘Battlestar Galactica’ movie reportedly in the works
We never quite thought that we would see this happen, but we’re certainly happy that it is: All signs indicate that there could be a “Battlestar Galactica” movie on the horizon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Lisa Joy (“Westworld”) is writing what is reported as an adaptation of the original 1978 TV series to the big screen via Universal Pictures. There’s no real indication if there will be a connection at all to the classic series from the early 2000’s, but we certainly hope so given that its reputation has even surpassed the original in many ways as one of the greatest shows of all time.
The site also reports that Francis Lawrence of “I Am Legend” and several editions of “The Hunger Games” movie franchise “is circling the project but there is no official attachment” as of yet. This is something certainly worth watching.
Personally, we’ll be the first to admit that we would much prefer some other new series set in the universe of the “Battlestar Galactica” show with Katee Sackhoff and company, just because to us that continues along the mythology of the series at its best. However, beggars can’t really be choosers, so an unknown film is probably better than nothing. (Also, maybe there is a part of us that doesn’t want to relive what happened with the end of “Caprica.”)
We’re not really a movie site, but of course we’ll follow this along to a certain extent to see if there are any other TV connections that come up over the course of the process. Stay tuned.

While I don’t care so much for the 1970’s original, I’m a huge fan of the reinvented Galactica. However, I’m not so sure that picking up that story would work so well. Firstly, the storyline was neatly wrapped up and came to a conclusion. Secondly, for obvious reasons, at least ONE of the most compelling characters (Laura Roslin) couldn’t be around anymore. – So I think there shouldn’t be a forced resurrection – at least not in the TV universe. – Why not move on and do something truly new – more as a legacy of that incredibly creative show and not as a faint copy.
