‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13 spoilers: Camilla Luddington hints at Jo’s (newly-discovered) past
The thirteenth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is not coming up on ABC until the fall, but there are many different events that will probably be haunting your mind until that point. To us, one of the biggest ones is going to be seeing how Jo and Alex get out of their present predicament. For one, Alex just knocked Andrew in the face, thinking that he was about to hook up with her. We’ve also learned a further thing or two about why Jo hasn’t accepted his marriage proposal, and it’s because she is technically married elsewhere to someone who was far from kind to her.
In teeing up this storyline to Entertainment Weekly, Camilla Luddington tries to place herself into her character’s thought process concerning this old relationship, and what could happen if he were to resurface:
“Relationships like that are really, really complicated … It’s not about necessarily being a strong woman or not being a strong woman, it’s about someone being a master manipulator within that relationship. I think she feels powerless when she was with him, and then she finally had a moment where she got to be free of him. I do question whether if he showed up again would that be how she feels? Obviously she’s terrified.”
As for why Jo hasn’t had Alex fully immersed in her past, there could be a different sort of fear in that. She may be embarrassed by what happened, or nervous about what he would think. She ultimately just may not want to place this amount of stress upon him, which is noble of her … but she’ll need to realize that he will care for her, and we cannot see this being any significant burden to their relationship at all. He’s certainly had his own problems, including his level of closeness with Meredith.

I think she didn’t tell him because she knows he would try to find the guy and do to him what he did to Deluca or worse, what he wanted to do to Jason in s9, kill him. And Jo knew that from the beginning. So I can understand why she felt like telling Alex would not be a good thing. If she felt secure enough she’d have told him, Alex would’ve gotten her the divorce and that would’ve been it. But she’s terrified of what the guy could do to her which means she’s also really scared of what he could do to Alex. So I think you’re right about that, her not telling him is for rather noble reasons, to protect him. And after seeing what he did to Andrew (which I think was the whole point of Alex walking in on them) Jo will not tell him. Maybe before she would’ve changed and her mind and told him so she wouldn’t have to lose him for good, but now she won’t tell him.
