‘UnREAL’ renewed for season 3 prior to season 2 premiering

UnREAL -

Clearly, Lifetime does not even need to see the ratings for the season 2 premiere of “UnREAL” for them to know that they wanted to bring the show back for more. How else do you explain the announcement that we have right now?

In a statement, the network has confirmed that a third season will be coming your way, with executive vice-president / head of programming Liz Gately having the following to say:

“‘UnReal’ is that rare series that redefines a network. It not only reflects culture, but pushes culture forward by creating television’s first female antihero … The overwhelming fan and critical reaction set the bar incredibly high, but the writers and executive producing team, coupled with the outstanding performances by Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer, have taken the second season to even greater creative heights. We are thrilled about the new ground we will break with season three while continuing our work with the incredible A+E Studios as we together build Lifetime’s Fempire.”

Regardless of whatever the ratings are, what this show gives the network is ultimately something that they have not really had before, and that is a commercial hit that draws rave reviews in addition to a devoted fan following. We also think that it is helped rather tremendously by spoofing “The Bachelor,” given that this is such an easy show to spoof at times and with every season it airs, it in turn allows “UnREAL” to remain relevant and something that people will be interested in checking out.
