‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 8 ratings stay solid despite Memorial Day Weekend struggle

Outlander -In general, we often consider Memorial Day Weekend to be one of the worst three-day periods of the entire year when it comes to television. It’s the end of May sweeps for one, and there is a general sentiment of exhaustion from many people who just want to take a nice break and go and do some other things.

Also, one other thing to remember here is that people often assume that nothing is even airing this weekend, which hurts several shows. We just wrote about how “Game of Thrones” dropped more than 15% in the 18-49 demographic this past Sunday thanks to the three-day weekend, and we wondered whether or not another show in “Outlander” would do the same. Luckily, we are here now to report some rather-great news!

While the series did not rise on this past Saturday, it at least held firm in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.2 rating. In terms of total viewers, it brought in total 1.06 million. This is one of the lower outings for the season in the latter measure, but it’s not the lowest and, given that it was Memorial Day Weekend, we consider that to be a victory.

Admittedly, we still admit to writing this being somewhat surprised that the show has not been renewed for a third season yet given its overall popularity. While these ratings are not necessarily out of this world, remember that we’re just reporting live+same day numbers and they are a small overall fraction of what contributes to the overall puzzle for Starz. Also, remember that more so than specific ratings, the network is looking for subscribers, and whether or not people are spending money on the channel just to watch this show.

Update: Not long after posting this, “Outlander” was confirmed for two more seasons!
